Training

Connecting Skills and Abilities

This is the key to our program and you won’t find it anywhere else, so pay attention.  At Prodigy, we understand the difference between “training” and “practice”.

  • Training is the development of “ability”.  It’s about building a foundation of athleticism, strength, and speed so that you have the physical tools (the “ability”) necessary to perform.
  • Practice is the development of “skill”.  It’s about learning the proper technique necessary to field ground balls, hit the curve, and throw a change up.  And it’s about the repetition required to turn practiced movement patterns into habit.

To be successful, athletes need skill and ability.  But too often, athletes don’t get any training, or they get training in one place and practice in another with little or no coordination between the two.  At Prodigy, our hitting and pitching programs have been developed in conjunction with our trainers so that the movement patterns necessary for maximum success at the plate, on the mound, or in the field are developed by our training staff in the weight room.

Next Level Training Program

Prodigy’s Next Level Training Program is an integrated program that builds physical speed and strength (ability) while developing baseball skills.  From October through February, Prodigy’s High School team members get 6 hours/week of Prodigy’s Next Level Training Program, which includes our High Intensity Training (HIT), pitching instruction, hitting instruction, and catching instruction.  Youth team members will receive 10 2-hour session from December through February.

And of course, it’s all included in your annual fee.

Hitting

Our hitting approach is the result of constant study and improvement, borrowing from the latest and most advanced work done by some of the top hitting instructors in the country and locally, including Craig Wallenbrock, Perry Husband, Steve Springer, and others.  We integrate these hitting concepts with the latest advancements in athletic and strength training and teach them to Prodigy players using a variety of drills, live BP, and video analysis.  We’ll break down every part of each player’s swing from start to finish, eliminating unnecessary movement, and creating a more short, compact stroke while generating added pop and power. With that, we’ll work on each hitters mental approach, so each player has a plan when they step into the box.

Pitching

Our pitching program borrows from some of the most advanced pitching instructors and trainers in the country, including Brent Strom, Ron Wolforth, Alan Jaeger,  Paul Reddick, and Eric Cressey.  We work on velocity, command, and “stuff”, while always focusing on athleticism – we expect our pitchers to be athletes first and pitchers second.  And most importantly, through intense training, constant arm care work, proper warm-ups and recovery, and managed pitching loads, we put the health of the pitcher above all else.

High Intensity Training (HIT)

Do you know what recruiters are looking  for?  That’s right – Velocity, Speed, Strength, and Body Type.  And if you don’t have these, then you just don’t get noticed.  Do you know how to prepare your body for maximum performance?  Well we do, and we use the latest training techniques from the likes of Eric Cressey, Lee Fiocchi, Marcus Elliott, MD, and others.  We put you in the weight room for some high intensity training circuits that include olympic-style weight training (for high school athletes only), functional training, core training, speed and agility work, explosiveness, and other cutting edge training, all focused on making you a better athlete, a better baseball player, and giving you the velocity, speed, and body type recruiters are looking for.
